"... In the last days ... I shall restore the fortunes of Elam, declares the Lord." Jeremiah 49:39
In July, 1996, a number of Iranian Christian Ministers and those serving in the Persian world gathered together in Frankfurt, Germany and founded The International Council of Iranian Christians (ICIC). This was followed by two organizational meetings of these ministers in August and November, 1996 in Costa Mesa, California and Colorado Springs, Colorado. A board of directors was elected and they met in Los Angeles on March 15 and 16, 1997 and planned a number of programs for 1997 and 1998 in order to achieve greater cooperation among the Iranian Churches and ministries and to promote the work of evangelism, Christian discipleship and leadership training among Iranians.
The International Council of Iranian Christians (ICIC) is a sister organization to the Council of Protestant Ministers in Iran which was founded in 1986 with similar goals of promoting Christ's work among Iranians through the evangelical churches in Iran. ICIC is established to deal with such issues as church growth, cooperation across denominations, and the arrival of the persecuted Iranian Christians in the west.
The Iranian diaspora is over 3.5 million worldwide of which 1.3 million reside in the U.S. However, presently less than 0.5 percent of this number are Christians and the work of evangelism, Christian discipleship and leadership training among Iranians needs to be greatly expanded. It is hoped that ICIC will have a strong start with a membership drive among Iranian Christian churches and ministries in 1997.
